Services

We offer forensic investigative services across all major engineering disciplines as well as providing consulting engineering services in the area of structural design, repair and restoration. Our staff have extensive technical knowledge in their areas of expertise and regularly participate in educational programs to enhance their ability to deliver benchmark-quality engineering services to our clients. For complex claims that require a multi-disciplinary approach, Arcon’s wealth of expertise across its roster of experts enables the mobilization of an integrated team in the most timely manner.

The expertise of Arcon’s civil & structural engineering team is called upon by insurers, litigation lawyers, property managers and construction/restoration professionals for a wide range of applications such as:

  • structural damage resulting from weather events & vehicle impacts
  • building code issues related to construction deficiencies and personal injuries
  • structural water damage caused by grading or building envelope breaches

Our work covers residential, commercial and industrial structures as well as public infrastructure such as parking garages and bridges.

Internally, our structural team routinely collaborates with our fire investigators to ensure that fire-damaged building sites are safe for investigation. Much of our work inevitably leads to a requirement for structural redesign services to enable the repair or reconstruction of a structure. In our capacity as consulting engineers, this work extends to re-purposing and rehabilitating structures to prolong their lifespan.

Arcon’s fire and explosion investigators have completed thousands of investigations involving residential, industrial & commercial properties and products, automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment. Whether the source of combustion was lightning, chemical reaction, mechanical friction, electrical short or man-made, our team brings years of practical and technical experience to their work. Our investigators are qualified to the highest industry standards and regularly attend educational seminars to remain apprised of emerging methodologies and standards. The results of their work is used by insurers, lawyers and manufacturers.

Our mechanical engineering team investigates failures of mechanical systems and materials used in residential, commercial and industrial applications. Their work often includes making an assessment of the extent to which the failure may have been impacted by how the product or equipment was utilized and maintained. When a failure involves a personal injury, their knowledge of how materials (metals, ceramics, glass and plastics) react in different situations and over time, can be critical to understanding the failure mechanism and its impact on the injury.

Typical mechanical engineering investigations involve:

  • pipe, valve and pressure gauge leaks
  • holding tank ruptures
  • manufacturing quality control issues
  • furnace, boiler, refrigeration and HVAC malfunctions
  • sprinkler deployments

Our electrical engineers investigate the cause of failures of a wide variety of electrical equipment used in recreational, household, commercial, industrial, healthcare and educational applications including:

  • power generation technology including wind turbines and solar panels
  • distribution network equipment such as transformers and switchgear
  • electrical components of HVAC installations including heat pumps
  • residential appliances and sump pumps

Along with their failure analysis, our engineers are often tasked with establishing the extent of damage and thus, the ability to repair the equipment so as to mitigate the costs associated with the failure and loss.

Our electrical engineers work closely with our fire & explosion investigators in situations where an electrical source may have caused the ignition.
